City of Lima


Lima is the capital of Peru, and it used to be the capital of the richest spanish viceroyalty of South America. It is the most important city of the country. It is a political, economical and cultural center.

It is interesting to visit:

The House of Government: The House of Francisco Pizarro

From the beginning it´s been a big building with a big garden in the middle. There is still an old fig tree which was planted by the conqueror himself.

You can see the five main rooms, the big hall and the dinning room on a guided tour. The visits are free, but it is necessary to make an arrangement two days before.

The Cathedral of Lima

The Cathedral, by which Pizarro started the foundation of the city. It was a very small temple opened in 1540. The earthquakes from the XVII and XVIII centuries affected it seriously. Towards 1755 the Cathedral already showed its current form.

It is truly a magnifiscent building, unique in America.

There are guided tours every day from 10 a.m to 16:45 p.m. Visits to the grave of Pizarro, the Basilica Catedral and the seven rooms of the Museum of Colonial Art.

The Palace Arzobispal

Inaugurated in 1924. The Palace in the work of the Polish architect Ricardo Malachowski. It has beautiful balconies with carvings and exquisite lattices. It connects with the Cathedral of Lima through a patio with orange trees.

The San Cristobal Hill

The San Cristobal Hill is located 400 m.a.s.l., and offers to the visitors the chance to overview the whole city. When the sky is clear, one can see the beaches Chorrillos and La Punta. And also the San Lorenzo island.

The Convent of "Los Descalzos" (The barefeet)

Located on the Rimac, in the San Lazaro quarter (right side of the Rimac river). It was founded at the end of the 16th century and it maintains the characteristics of a typical collection convent. It has valious paintings from the "quiteña and cusqueña" schools - (painting schools of Quito and Cuzco).


Miraflores

Miraflores was a fishermen town and peaceful spa, but due to its strategic location, it became the new comercial center of Lima.

El Callao

Located at the north west of Lima. El Callao is the principal harbour of the country, and it is the place of entrance and exit of freight and passangers to the whole world.

Here are the international airport. The Royal Fortress Felipe. And the well-known lighthouse of the Plaza Grau.

From this port you can take round trips on boats to the islands San Lorenzo and El Fronton.
