Access roads to Peru
· Terrestrial roads of access:
Three terrestrial entrance roads exist for the following frontiers:
· For the North: In the front line with Ecuador, entering to Peru by the Tumbes city.
· For the Southeast: In the front line with Bolivia, entering to Peru by the Puno city.
· For the South: In the front line with Chile, entering to Peru by the Tacna city.
The Panamericana highway is the main international highway that was recently reconstructed and that travels
the country from the north to south. The highway passes through the Litoral deserted area from Tumbes to Tacna.
It is important also the new highway of Bolivia to Ilo in Peru that allows the Bolivians and Peruvians of
the interior to have access to the sea making an itinerary of 5 hours of highway. You can travel in bus from
Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil.
The most important buses companies that provide these services they are: Cruz del Sur, Ormeño, El Rapido and
Rutas de America. It is also possible to go from La Paz City in Bolivia to Puno the Peruvian part of the
Titicaca lake.
· Air access ways:
In Peru several private air companies exist, the most important are: Aerocontinente (N6), Grupo Taca (TA),
Lan Perú (LP), and Tans. The following international airlines also fly regularly to the Peru: Iberia,
Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeroméxico, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Continental Airlines, Alitalia,
Avinaca, KLM, Lan Chile and Varig.
· Approximate flight time:
From Madrid to Lima: 12 hours. From México DF to Lima: 5.40 hours. From Buenos Aires to Lima: 4.50 horas.
From Miami to Lima: 5.40 hours. From Atlanta to Lima: 6.50 hours and from New York to Lima: 7.50 hours.
· International airports:
Lima (LIM) (Jorge Chávez International) is located at 16 km. to the northwest of the city (time of trip:
25 minutes). There is a taxis stop. This airport has tax-free store, stores of craft and gifts, banks,
coffees, restaurants and Office of Tourist Information. Cuzco (CUZ) it is located in the south and receives
flights coming from La Paz City in Bolivia.
· Marine access ways:
At the present time more and more lines of cruises are arriving to the country as part of their tour for South
America, including Cunard, Princess Cruises and Hapag Lloyd, between others.
· The ports more used by these lines are:
Callao (Constitutional County from Callao - Lima) and
San Martin (Pisco - Ica).
