Rafting Villcanota River

The river called Vilcanota (also called Wilcamayu, the same one that downstream will take Urubamba´s name, between the districts of Pisaq and Ollantaytambo) allows us to practice rafting in different areas and levels. The river nourishes, irrigates and feeds a great quantity of villages that border it. The most frequent routes are, among others:

· Piñipampa - Huambutio - San Salvador.
· Pachar - Cachijata.
· Calca - Huarán.

ROUTES

1.Piñipampa - Huambutio - San Salvador.

We recommend this route in the rainy season (Dec - Mar). We will set in at Piñipampa town. The distance of the crossing is 15 kilometers, we will arrive to San Salvador, next to Pisac, where the activity is finished.

Location: South of Cusco.
Duration: 10 hours.
Level: · In the rainy season (Dec - Mar) class II and III.
· In the dry season the level of the river is easy to cross, experience is not required.
Attractions: Piñipampa town, Huambutio, San Salvador, Pisac (optional).
Time : We recommend to go in rainy season.

2. Pachar - Cachijata

We recommend this route during the dry season (Apr. - Dec.) We start in Pachar - Cachijata Pachar´s pier 5 km from Ollantaytambo, we cross the Urubamba river (Vilcanota downstream) in a distance of 12 km and we end in Jachijata, a town near Ollantaytambo.

Location: Sacred Valley
< Duration: 5 hours.
Level: In the rainy season (Dec- March.) Class III and the IV Intermediate level.
In the dry season, class III. Easy level, experience is not needed.
Attractions: Walls of Inca channeling, Inca Bridge, Station of train Ollanta, Cachijata bridge, visits (optional) to Ollantaytambo.
Season: It is recommended from April to December.

3. Calca - Huarán

Only opened in the dry season (Apr. - Dec.), we start in Huarán, passing over Calca, crossing the Urubamba river (Vilcanota upstream) in a distance of 8 km.

Location: Sacred Valley.
Duration: Half a day.
Level: In the rainy season (Dec.- Apr.) it is not opened for tourism. dry season (Apr. - Dec.) class IV. Advanced level, previous experience and a very good physical fitness is needed.
Attractions: Rapids of Huarán, Calca.
Season: It´s recommended on dry season (Apr. - Dec.)
