The province San Martin is located in the high jungles of the east, or tropical region of Peru. It is characterized by its natural wealth and wild fauna.

Besides, it has commercial and industrialized cities like: Tarapoto (also called the city of the palm trees) and Moyobamba.

The province of San Martin has a unique and rich folklore.

Its capital Moyobamba, known as "The city of the Orchids" was the first city of Peru founded in the jungle little time after the conquest.

The natives are renowned for their fine and beautiful pottery as well as for their making of hats, baskets and little baskets.


It is interesting to visit:

- Cave of the Huacharos
- Sanctuary of the Amazon
- Creek Aguas Claras
- San Juan de Urifico Spa
- Combaza Spa
- Waterfalls: Ahuashiyacu, Huancamaillo and Chapahuanka
- Lagoons: Venecia, Azul and San Fernando


Tourist Site Attractions:

Town of Lamas, located at 21 kilometers from the Tarapoto city. It is considered one of the oldest cities of the Peruvian jungle (founded in 1656). It is characterized for its steep streets, due to its location on the top of a mountain, despite being in the middle of the jungle.

Town of Tarapoto, known as "The city of the Palm Trees". With a warm climate and paradise landscapes it rises in the middle of the jungle. It is interesting to visit the waterfalls of Ahuashiyacu, Huacamaillo and Tununtununba.

River Abiseo-Gran Pajaten National Park, with a surface of 274.000 hectares and on the river basin of the Huallaga river. This important natural reservation is destined for the preservation of the archeological zone of Pajaten, where there are remains of the Chachapoyas culture.

This archeological site is attributed to the Chachapoyas culture (1200 to 1500 a.C.). At first sight it seems to be covered up by dense vegetation. The buildings were built on different levels.

The access to the park is measy and limited. It is only possible to enter to the Gran Pajaten with an express authorization. There is no access for tourists.

Waterfalls of Asnacyacu, located at 7 kilometers from Moyobamba. Waterfalls of 8 meters of cristaline and cold water. It is surrounded by thick vegetation. An ideal place to observe different species of birds.

Thermal Baths of San Mateo, located at 5 kilometers from Moyobamba. These puddles are well known for their medicinal properties.

Waterfalls of Gera, located in the district of Jepelacio at 21 kilometers of Moyobamba. Surrounded by a dense vegetation, you can see the water fall from an altitude of 120 meters.

Waterfalls of Breo, located at 82 kilometers from the Juanjui city. They are located in the high basin of the Huayabamba river, on a rocky massif covered by vegetation of the high jungle. There are giant rocks of more than 4 meters in size, covered by a thin carpet of algae and moss.

The Blue Lagoon, located at 38 kilometers of Tarapoto. It has an surface of 430 hectares, and it is the ideal habitat for herons, kingfishers and eagles. The color of its water varies from green to blue tunes.
