The province of Amazonas is located in the Northeast in the middle of the jungle.
It was the cradle of the Chachapoyas or Sachapuyos. Its stone buildings temples,
fortresses, platforms, tumbs, pottery and cities testify the development reached
by this civilization.
The fortress of Kuelap, the funeral packs, the necropolis of the Chipuric and
Revach Cultures (800 a 1200 años d.C.) found in the zone are important remains
of tourist interest.
The city of Chachapoyas still has its houses of vice-royal style; with tile roofs
and big patios surrounded by archords, beautiful gardens and wide balconies.

Town of Huancas, with the cave paintings of Pitaya.
The counties of Bagua, Utcubamba and Condorcanqui, with the native groups aguarunas
and huambizas ( towns where the time seems to have been still). It is interesting
to visit the water falls of Numparket. It is located 40 kilometers from Bagua.
The city of Lamud, in the province of Luya, is characterized for its: Square of Arms.
The River Jucusbamba. The Cross of Lamud. And the Stone Mills.
The picturesque city of Luya was seat to the monumental fortress of Kuelap.
The Fortress of Kuelap, was built in the 18th., century b.C. It is located at
74 kilometers from Chachapoyas, in the county of Luya. It is considered one of
the major Peruvian archeological monuments. From its 20 meters high walls and an
altitude of 3.000 m.a.s.l., to the wall-flanked alleys with cone shape, make
this city a curious and misterious place.
In the region of the county of Luya there are archeological remains of Revach,
Chipuric, Carajia, San Antonio, Pueblo de los Muertos and Gran Vilaya.
The county of Rodriguez de Mendoza, considered a zone of high jungle, with natural
attractiveness, popular festivities and a great gastronomical variety.
Lagoon of Pomacochas, located at 86 kilometers from the city of Chachapoyas, in
the county of Bongara. Surrounded by totorales, its waters have a green-blue color
due to subterranean streams that feed it. One can see birds like herons and the
zambullider.
Lagoon of the Condors, located at 93 kilometers from Chachapoyas. It is characterized
for its natural beauty. The place is also known as "Laguna de las Momias" (Mummies
Lagoon), because 280 mummies were found there well conserved. Besides, there are
found about 3.000 objects that belonged to the pre-Inca period.
