Abancay is the capital of the department of Apurimac, saw part of Peru, located at the foot of Mount Ampay.
 
At the beginning of the Republic, Abancay belonged to Cusco. On April 28, 1873 by an act establishing the department of Apurimac based on the provinces of Andahuaylas (Ayacucho), Antabamba, Aymara and Cotabambas (Cusco), located at Abancay as its capital.

Abancay city is located in the central Andes at 13 º 22 ཱི "south latitude and 72 º 24' 01" west longitude. Through the city the river passes Mariño.
Abancay was a town before the arrival of the Incas. At the beginning of the colony, the Spanish named this site as Amancay, Villa de los Reyes.

Abancay city is known for its colorful houses with red tiles.
Little is known of their origins, but the chroniclers relate that the first inhabitants of various tribes formed the areas that had their origin in the Quechua culture. In the region took their seats Andahuaylas legendary Chancas, whole tribes for their militancy has gone down in history as one of the most seasoned and former rebels in Peru.

Ampay of the glacier, which stretches between 5000 and 5235 meters, is one of the most important attractions of the region.

In the city of Abancay is the Technological University of the Andes Universidad Nacional Micaela Bastidas "and the newly established National University" José María Agueda "in Andahuaylas.

MAIN ATTRACTIONS OF THE CAPITAL
